Effective consultation or supervision can significantly boost your effectiveness, because this is where a seasoned, licensed therapist offers their expertise and experience to benefit you and your clients. Consultation is a meeting outside of your supervision meetings, where you can get another licensed clinician’s perspective and insight, broadening your understanding of clinical material and countertransference. It’s not in place of supervision, but it constitutes additional training, so as a pre-licensed clinician, you can count it as training hours. For licensed therapists, it’s a way to talk things through and gain additional insight that help you be more effective, to provide better clinical care.
In a confidential environment, we will process aspects of your cases and personal challenges. I can help you with applying theory and increase the likelihood a client will not quit pre-maturely, by overcoming impasses and helping you handle difficult situations that arise.
I have advanced training and certificates in psychodynamic and depth-oriented theoretical orientations (including attachment theory) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy; and I have training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for couple’s therapy approaches along with affair recovery methods, so I can help you understand your clients in broader and deeper ways. I’m also a trained EMDR therapist and am close to certification.
I’m a supervisor and consultant and two areas I work strongly with are transference and countertransference.
I had phenomenal supervisors myself too, and I continually take supervision courses to enhance my abilities. This translates to you being able to see your cases more clearly and feel more equipped to handle and help them.
Consultation or supervision has the added benefit of being good training ground for future clinical work, because as you consult on cases and get a better understanding of your current clients, the more it advances your ability to apply better therapy approaches with future clients. What I learned with one case through consultation I found benefited me down the line with many other cases.
